Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Dorothy, Inc. ("Dorothy", "we", "us"), which runs Best Roofer at bestroofer.org (the "Site"), collects, uses and shares information about you. It works together with our Terms of Service.

The short version

We collect what you type into our forms and basic technical data.
We use it to match you with roofing contractors and to run the Site.
We share your request with no more than five roofing contractors matched to your request, and with the service providers that help us run the Site. Companies that pay for Local Priority in your area may be offered your request first.
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information at any time by emailing contact@hidorothy.com.

Information we collect

When you ask to be matched with a roofer, we collect:

your name, phone number and email
the property's ZIP code and state, the type of property, the type of roof and how many stories it has
details about the job, such as what's going on with the roof, how soon you need help, whether an insurance claim is involved and any notes you add
the company you asked for, if you started from a company's page
a record of your permission to be contacted: the wording you agreed to and when

When a company uses our claim-your-listing form, we collect the person's name, role, job title if given, work email, phone, and the changes they ask for.

When a company buys a paid listing, we collect the same contact details, the plan and city chosen, and the listing content it gives us (call number, website, photos, logo, services and description). Payments are handled by Stripe. We don't see or store full card numbers; Stripe shares with us the billing name, email, payment status and the last digits of the card.

Automatically, when you use the Site, our hosting provider receives basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. Our form service uses this data to block spam, and we keep it with your request as part of the record of your permission.

We don't use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics, a service of Google LLC, to understand how the Site is used, for example which pages are viewed and how many visitors complete our forms. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and receives information such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you visit and when. We don't send Google your name, email, phone number, address or the notes you write in our forms, and we have turned off Google signals and ad personalization for the Site. Google's use of this information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy ↗ (see also how Google uses information from sites that use its services ↗). You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on ↗.

To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms

With roofing contractors. We share your matching request with no more than five roofing contractors that serve your property's area, as described in our Terms of Service. Each company may use it only to respond to your request.
With service providers that help us run the Site, who may use it only to provide their services to us:
Netlify, which hosts the Site and receives and stores form submissions
Slack, which we use to alert our team to new requests
Resend, which sends email on our behalf
Stripe, which processes payments for paid listings
Google, which provides the ratings and reviews on company pages and Google Analytics (see "Information we collect" above)
When the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users, the companies, Dorothy or others.
If our business changes, for example in a merger or sale, your information may transfer to the new owner, who must keep honoring this policy.

We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Google Maps content

Company pages can show ratings and reviews from Google Maps. When you open a company page that has them, your browser loads the content directly from Google, and Google receives information such as your IP address. Google's use of that information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy ↗. We don't receive or store the reviews or any information Google collects.

How long we keep information

We keep your request only as long as we need it to handle your request, keep a record of your permission, and meet legal obligations. Then we delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner. Companies that received your request keep their own copy under their own policies, and you can ask them directly to delete it.

Your choices and rights

Access, correction and deletion. Email contact@hidorothy.com to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it. We may need to confirm your identity first.
Texts and calls. Reply STOP to any text to opt out of texts, and tell any company that contacts you to stop. To withdraw your request entirely, email us.
State privacy rights. Depending on where you live, such as California, you may have additional rights over your personal information. You can use them by emailing us, and we won't treat you differently for doing so.

Security

We protect information with access controls and encrypted connections. No method of storing or sending information is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Site is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
